2018 Competition rules / guidelines

The exhibition is for PRINTS only and has two categories GENERAL and THEME (Song Title) although we would also like a digital copy of the submissions for including in the website, yearbook and for awards.

ELIGIBILITY – To enter the exhibition the entrant must be a fully paid up member of CHVPS as at Thursday 10th May 2018 which is the closing date for entries. If, for whatever reason, you can’t bring your entries on that night please make arrangements to get the prints to Ian Stanyon or Keith Brown, preferably before the handing in date (see contact details below).

GENERAL Any subject is acceptable.
THEME Inspired by a SONG TITLE. Include the Song title and an artist name.

Each member may enter up to a maximum three prints. These may be entered into either the GENERAL category or THEME category. All entries may be entered into one category or split between the two.
Please note that all images, in both categories, must have been taken since January 1st 2015 up to the closing date for the exhibition, i.e. 10th May 2018.

SUBMISSIONS – Prints in either category may be colour or monochrome. They can be printed on your own printer or can be processed commercially if preferred. They may also be printed by another member but ONLY the author should make alterations to the image in photo-editing software such as Photoshop.
As there is limited space on the display boards the number of entries per member displayed may need to be limited to two, depending on the total number of entries received. In these circumstances members are asked to choose which two images they would wish to have displayed at the exhibition; indicating this on the entry form. All three entries will be judged.
Print size – Prints should be unmounted to a Maximum size of A3 (42 cm x 29.7 cm) or its equivalent area (2150 cm2) and a Minimum size of A4 (29.7 cm x 21 cm) or its equivalent area (625 cm2). A border may be included within those measurements but it must be obvious and part of the print, so that it is not trimmed. Alternatively, white, unprinted parts of the mount can be trimmed so that the print is flush to the edges ready for mounting.
Prints will be mounted on foam board which makes for an attractive exhibition. An entry fee of £1 per print is required to cover costs of the exhibition.

DPI IMAGE – A digital jpeg image of your print should also be submitted (maximum 1400 pixels wide by 1050 pixels high) for the purposes of including in the website, yearbook and for certificates. This can be provided on a memory stick on the night or emailed to Ian or Keith (details below).

JUDGING – Prints will be judged and commented on by Erica Oram CPAGB, AFIAP, BPE2 at our meeting on June 14th and we will aim to get the prints mounted before they are judged. Erica will be asked to award 1st 2nd 3rd in each category together with Commendations as appropriate. In addition the best monochrome print, from either category, will receive The Denis Thorpe Trophy and the best colour print from either category will received the Catherine cup.

CONTACT – If you have any questions please contact either Ian Stanyon or Keith Brown.

Thank you and GOOD LUCK. We look forward to seeing your work.
Nick Chalkley (Chairman CHVPS)
