Prestigious Bishop’s Badge awarded to Kate Brown LRPS DPAGB

Kate is a long established member of our Club, as well as being Chair of our Club not once, but twice! Kate is recognised for her many and varied photographic talents, including ecclesiastical themed images (churches, stained glass windows, etc.) plus flower (especially macro) photography. Kate has held many responsible positions within St Peter’s Church, Hope. So I’ve got some good news to report, as I’ve just heard that recently Kate received a letter from The Rt Revd Libby Lane, Bishop of Derby. The letter said that Kate’s years of distinguished service to the Church, has prompted the Bishop Libby to award Kate a Bishop’s Badge. The award is in recognition of Kate’s ongoing work in mission and ministry within the Diocese of Derby. Kate said “It is a great honour to receive the award, I am chuffed to bits. I have enjoyed my work for the church and am sorry that because of my health I can’t carry on now”

Due to the current Covid19 restrictions the presentation was on Monday 4th May, via a Zoom live video personal link with Bishop Libby. The Bishop of Derby  conducted a short service, whilst Kate’s husband Keith (Vice President of our Club), read from Romans. Then Kate’s two sons, Sam and Alex, presented their mum with a certificate and the badge.

Keith told me that restrictions prevented the award being given at a church service, thus the ceremony was conducted online, via a computer. With Keith remarking that the event was so much more personal for Kate, who never stopped smiling. Kate said that she could see why The Rt Revd Libby Lane is a Bishop, as Bishop Libby was so engaging and friendly, whilst Kate and the family joked with her during the award ceremony. Over the years I’ve seen many of Kate’s church / ecclesiastical themed images. So here’s just a few, to support this announcement, celebrating the honour the Bishop of Derby has bestowed upon Kate:
